WEDNESDAY NIGHT RECAP - JUNE 3RD
WEDNESDAY NIGHT RACING RETURNS FOR THE 2026 SEASON
The 2026 Wednesday Night Race Series opened on June 3 with conditions that demanded patience from every crew on the water. Cool temperatures, light southeast winds, and a lingering chop made for a challenging evening on Lake Michigan. With little breeze available and waves slowing the fleet, crews were forced to work hard to maintain momentum around the course.
Race Committee selected Course G, a 5.47-mile course that took competitors from the West Mark to the South Mark, then to the North Mark before the finish. The race quickly became a tactical contest as crews searched for every available puff of wind. The lighter boats generally benefited from the conditions, while heavier boats worked hard to maintain momentum through the evening.
When the race concluded, Bravo (Tom Dekker) captured first place, followed by River Road (Mike Ryer) in second and Uzivo (Nick Suddendorf) in third. Elyse (Tom Petersen) persevered through the fading breeze to complete the course well after sunset, while Sweet Freedom (Dan Garcia) was scored DNF. No boats competed in the Cruising Fleet.
Thanks to the Race Committee and all competitors for kicking off another season of Wednesday Night Racing. We look forward to seeing the fleet back on the starting line next week.
